Kampot

Kampot Province is located in the south-western part of Cambodia with a total coastline of 73 kilometers. The coastline stretches from the border of Hatieng district, Vietnam to Koh Ses, Prey Nup district, Sihanouk Ville. Kampot Province comprises eight districts with 92 communes and 477 villages, with a population of around 4 % of the country's total.
The country's most extensive seagrass area is found in Kampot Bay, where the seagrass meadow extends from Trapeang Ropov and Stung Kampot estuaries. Dugongs are usually found in these meadows during November-December, while various species of dolphin are present almost throughout the region within the year. There are also some large seaweed farming areas concentrated in the Kampot area.
Mangroves fringe much of the coastline of the country with the province of Kampot not being the exception, around 9% of the country's total mangrove forests are found in this province. Unfortunately wholesale clearing of the mangroves and conversion to salt farms has greatly reduced their spatial extent.
By Royal Decree, several protected areas have been designated within the coastal zone. Once such National Park,  the Bokor National Park, is located within Kampot Province. This 140,000 ha park is located along the western boundary of the province and stretches from the coast all the way to Koh Kong Province.

• Aside from its riverfronts and mountains, tourist can also rent bicycles and wander around the central city, visit small caves near Buddhist shrines and even watch football games
• The eastside of Kampot facing towards the ocean is also a good place to visit where Cham Muslims communities can be found.
• Tourists can also visit the Buddhist Temple, which is located right across the Kampot River. This place is very rich in Kampot history which is open to tourists.
• Right next to the temple, past the salt field, Kampot’s famous black pepper and durian farming can be found. Kampot became very popular because of these products. The Durian plantation produces Durians which is one fruit that is worth trying. Although this fruit throws in a very foul odor, its taste is remarkably great. Eating this fruit definitely is one activity you shouldn’t miss when visiting Kampot Cambodia.

KAMPOT PROVINCE - Cambodia

Is a small town on the Tuk Chhou River, 5km inland from the sea. Fishing and farming are the main activities; durians and melons grow in abundance. To the south end of town is a large dusty traffic circle with three hotels arrayed around it – Phnom Kieu, Phnom Kamchay, and Tuk Chhou.

Each has its own restaurants; Tuk Chhou offers a seedy nightclub. Also on the circle is Prachummith Restaurant, close by is Amar Restaurant.

To the south near the river is the GPO and telecommunications building. At the north end of town, about 1.5 km away, is the Central Market, with foodstalls. All Kampot transportation is concentrated within range of the market-cycle, motors, taxis, trucks, and buses. The railway station lies farther north.

There’s zero of interest in Kampot except to walk around town and look at crumbling French-built blue-shuttered shop fronts. Previously Kampot was a stepping-stone to Bokor and Kep. You can reach Kampot by irregular plane service from Phnom Penh. It’s not advisable to get there by car. It takes about 5 hours to cover the 150 km from Phnom Penh to Kampot.

From Sihanoukville it’s 105 km to Kampot by a jumping and dirt road. The train from Phnom Penh to Kampot takes seven hours. It used to be a frequent target of the Khmer Rouge - in a 1994 ambush, three foreigners were captured by them.
